Back-Up Care benefit offered to ladder-rank profs

By Carol Ness

Starting July 1, a new benefit will help ladder-rank Berkeley faculty handle a common workplace problem: Your regular daycare isn’t available and you need to be at work.

The Back-Up Care program , a partnership with the Bright Horizons company, applies when extra or unexpected care is needed for children or for adults, according to guidelines posted online by the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Welfare. The office’s policy page contains a link to a PDF explaining how the program works .

Eligible faculty will be able to use up to 40 hours of care either in their homes or at a care center during the year that begins July 1.
The expansion of Back-Up Care to all ladder-rank faculty members follows a successful pilot run, according to the provost’s office.
