Campanile reopens following repairs

By Public Affairs

UC Berkeley’s Campanile is now open for visitors again. The tower reopened Saturday, Oct. 28 after a two-month closure for repairs at the top, above the carillon.

Repairs focused on steel plates used by the tower’s original contractor to align the steel frame that holds the carillon’s bells, according to Christine Shaff of Facilities Services. Water had weakened bolts holding the five-pound plates. Appropriate repairs were made as a safety precaution.

Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturdays. On Sundays the tower is open from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:45 p.m. For more information, see the Campanile website .
