Campus hosts diversity conference

By Public Affairs

Princeton professor Cornel West and veteran politico Donna Brazile are slated to deliver keynote speeches on campus as UC Berkeley hosts a two-day conference on workplace diversity to kick-start Black History Month.

Organized by the California Diversity Council, the 2012 California Diversity and Leadership Conference will feature panel discussions, roundtables and workshops tackling the underrepresentation of women and other minorities in the world of business.

Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau is scheduled to deliver opening remarks as part of a Feb. 2 ceremony recognizing California’s most influential businesswomen.

Political consultant, commentator and author Brazile, who also serves as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, will speak during an awards luncheon on the opening day of the conference.

West, who is best known for his 1994 analysis of race and prejudice in America, Race Matters, will close the event with an address on Feb. 3.
