Campus housing and transportation survey going out this week

By Public Affairs

Curious to know how many people drive to get to campus? So are UC Berkeley’s planners.

This week, they will email a survey asking students, staff and faculty for information on transportation and housing. This survey has been done every three years since 1980. In addition to informing campus transportation and housing initiatives, it provides details valuable to the work of reducing Berkeley’s greenhouse-gas emissions and improving its environmental footprint. The ClassPass and BearPass transit cards came about as a result of past surveys.

Not everyone will be asked to fill out the survey; about half of faculty, staff and students will be selected in a random sample intended to give planners a good set of data. The request and link will come from an on-campus email address (planning@berkeley.edu) and responders will be asked to use CalNet authentication to protect their privacy. All those who return the survey will be entered into a drawing to receive one of 10 $50 gift cards for use at local stores.

The survey results will be available next fall. Questions about the survey may be sent to campus planner Billy Riggs, Physical and Environmental Planning, at billyriggs@berkeley.edu.
