From the morning symposia at International House through the noontime rally on Sproul Plaza, and the late-afternoon investiture ceremony, UC Berkeley caught glimpses of the many dimensions of its new chancellor, Nicholas Dirks on the day of his formal inauguration Friday, Nov. 8, as the campus’s 10th chancellor.
The video of some of the pomp, circumstance and behind-the-scenes moments of Dirks’ inauguration day can also be seen here.
Still cameras recorded Dirks’ big day as well, and a photo montage can be viewed here.
In his inaugural speech in Zellerbach Hall late in the day, Dirks spoke of his own beginnings as a scholar and of the utopian ideals that gave birth to the University of California and its flagship campus, Berkeley. He also laid out his priorities and vision for the future. A full transcript of Chancellor Dirks’ inaugural address is available here (PDF).
