All through April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Berkeley campus will provide ample opportunities to learn more about about sexual and relationship violence, and to spread the message to, in the words of its student organizers, “Shatter the silence. Stop the violence.”

On Thursday, April 17, students, staff and faculty will join forces to “Take Back the Night,” an event co-sponsored by the student group Take Back the Night, the Gender Equity Resource Center, the Berkeley National Organization for Women and the ASUC. Set for 5 to 7 p.m. on Sproul Plaza, “Take Back the Night” aims to raise awareness through art, music, resource sharing and open storytelling. The evening will include community performances, an open-mic period and a silent candlelight vigil and march.

Beyond “Take Back the Night,” though, the campus has partnered with student groups on a host of events to raise awareness about sexual assault, including where to go for assistance and support , how to report an incident and more. Films, training and discussions will take place on campus throughout the month.
