Associate vice president for development at UT Austin, Hooper has served the Texas campus since 2007, and before that held fundraising and executive director posts in the nonprofit sector beginning in 1999.

“Julie Hooper has a proven track record of showing the impact of fundraising to all levels of donors, and meaningfully making the case for their continued investment in public higher education,” says UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor for University Relations Scott Biddy. “We are excited to welcome Julie to Berkeley at this critical time in our fundraising enterprise.”

Hooper assumes her new post July 1 — joining the campus just as it has completed a $3.13 billion fundraising effort, The Campaign for Berkeley, and as it works to inspire new donors and existing supporters.

She will lead diverse areas of the development enterprise, spanning all aspects of fundraising, as well as coordinate fundraising activities across the campus’s academic and administrative units. Hooper will also serve as vice president of the UC Berkeley Foundation, the primary vehicle for enlisting fundraising volunteers from the university’s broader community.

“Donors are inspired to invest in success, and the excitement and pride generated around The Campaign for Berkeley bodes well for the university’s future,” she says. “What strikes me about Berkeley’s unique place in higher education is the absolute commitment to its top-ranked academic standing , while remaining focused on fulfilling its public mission to students, California and the world. I am delighted to be joining Berkeley at this exciting time.”

Hooper earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her master’s from the University of Georgia. She is active in numerous community organizations and has been recognized for her fundraising work.
