College Information Day to be held this Saturday

WHAT: College Information Day, an event at the University of California, Berkeley, in which dozens of college and university representatives will give tips to college-bound students and their families.

Officials from some 60 public and private colleges and universities, including institutions outside of California, will provide information on preparing for college, applying for admission and seeking financial aid. This free, annual event, geared toward middle school and high school students, is being sponsored by a group of area educational institutions known as the East Bay Consortium of Educational Institutions, Inc. (Cal-SOAP). Participants are asked to register in advance at www.eastbayconsortium.org or by calling (510) 879-1586.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Wheeler Hall Auditorium, UC Berkeley. See campus map.

WHO: Among the schools that will have representatives at the event are historically black colleges and universities, various campuses of the California State University and University of California systems, as well as private institutions including Holy Names University, St. Mary’s College of California, Mills College and University of San Francisco. In addition, a panel of college students will discuss the importance of keeping college as a goal, and representatives from various segments will discuss their college admissions, financial aid, college entrance tests, personal statements, and more.
