“A Series of Portraits: Berkeley’s Nobel Laureates” by Elena Zhukova won the Grand Gold award in the photography category for a series of related photos.

A Series of Portraits: Berkeley’s Nobel Laureates by Elena Zhukova won a Grand Gold in the photography category. The judges said the beauty of the images and technical skill required made the portrait series an easy choice for the award.

“We loved how the images were executed with a beautiful, painterly quality, and each conveyed a sense of the individual in the portrait. What could have been a stiff group photo became a lovely, casual interaction among the subjects,” said the judges in their notes.

Another Grand Gold award went to the UC Berkeley Innovator Engagement Platform , by the University Relations team, in the interdisciplinary advancement projects category. The platform’s tools include a website, a resume book for startup recruiting, a variety of low-cost events, a set of critical intercampus relationships and educational assets for campuswide fundraisers.

California magazine took home a silver for a magazine with a circulation of 75,000 or greater in the general-interest magazines category. Judges noted the publication’s “bold headlines, loud illustrations and arresting headlines” as some of the features that set it apart from the rest.

Bronze awards went to the “Big Give” campaign in the fundraising programs category; the Berkeley Advancement e-Newsletter in the internal audience publications category; and the Energy Biosciences Institute for an issue in its journal Bioenergy Connection , “Ford’s Legacy: Fueling the Bioeconomy,” in the special issues category.

Founded in 1974, CASE is an international association that serves more than 3,600 educational institutions and nearly 78,000 advancement professionals, helping them to build stronger relationships with alumni and donors, raise funds for campus projects, produce recruitment materials, market their institutions to prospective students, diversify the profession and foster public support of education.
