The East Bay Regional Park District police department is investigating an auto burglary involving an unmarked UCPD vehicle driven by University of California Police Chief Margo Bennett.

The campus police department confirmed Saturday, Aug. 22, that Chief Bennett was the victim of an auto burglary on Friday, the previous morning. Bennett had driven the vehicle to Point Isabel Regional Shoreline for a morning run prior to reporting to work. When she returned from the run at approximately 8 a.m., she discovered the break-in. The vehicle had been parked in the Point Isabel parking lot.

UCPD is not releasing details of the auto burglary or providing any additional comments while the case is being investigated. The case remains in the jurisdiction of the East Bay Regional Park District police department, which is leading the investigation.
