Berkeley students’ Earth Week 2016, April 17 to 24, kicks off with a post-Cal Day creek cleanup Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., followed by an Earth Week Carnival showcasing student sustainability groups Monday on Memorial Glade.

The week’s packed schedule runs the gamut from film screenings ( Dear President Obama , which is part of the San Francisco Green Film Festival, and the computer-animated sci-fi comedy Wall-E ) to a Weigh-Your-Waste night at Cal Dining halls, a pollinator garden workshop and solar and water tours.

According to Berkeley staffer Katherine Walsh, director of the Student Environmental Resource Center, this year’s Earth Week promises to be “more collaborative and diverse,” with events appealing to a broad range of student interests, from activism, policy and politics to gardening and habitat.

One highlight will be a discussion of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, titled “Where do we go from here?,” on Tuesday evening.

The Students of Color Environmental Collective , a new campus organization, will offer a workshop on environmental justice Wednesday at noon. That evening, longtime environmental activist Mark Dubois, co-founder of Friends of the River International and international coordinator for Earth Day 1990 and 2000, will speak.

The week includes the campus’s first alternative transportation fair, an informational event on plastic bags’ environmental impact, a free live jazz concert and the annual Sustainability Summit, where the campus environmental community honors exemplary individuals and group initiatives.
