Staff Appreciation Week: fun, food, photos, free T-shirts and more

By Public Affairs

Plenty of universities have staff appreciation days. Rarer are those, like UC Berkeley, that devote an entire week to thanking the people who keep the classrooms running, the academic departments functioning and the wheels turning all over campus day after day after day.

Then again, Berkeley is an exceptional university. And it boasts an exceptional staff.

Cal Walks at Work Day

Cal Walks at Work Day 2016, culminating at the Campanile, is set for Friday, June 17.

Berkeley’s fourth annual Staff Appreciation Week — the theme this year is “Body, Mind and Soul” — is set for Monday through Friday, June 13 to June 17, and is part of the “culture of gratitude” campus leaders vowed to nurture when they expanded the event to five days in 2013.

In a recent CalMessage, Jeannine Raymond, Berkeley’s vice chancellor for human resources, called it “a week of events and activities to recognize and celebrate your contributions throughout the year,” and “a great way to de-stress and re-focus on ourselves while re-engaging with what makes Berkeley such an incredible place to work. “

Staff Appreciation Week 2016 will feature a stellar lineup of keynote speakers, daily “staff spotlights,” special offers, a photo contest and, as always, Summerfest , scheduled for Wednesday, June 15. In addition to a variety of vendors dishing up delectable food, it’s a day of talent, entertainment and — while supplies last — the ever-popular free T-shirts.

The week closes with Cal Walks at Work Day , an energetic lunchtime group walk from multiple on- and off-campus locations culminating in a “flash mob” at the Campanile. University Health Services encourages staff (and faculty, too) to take part.
