Botanical Garden extends summer hours on Twilight Tuesdays

By Kathleen Maclay

Twilight Tuesdays are back at the UC Botanical Garden.

That means the lush garden nestled near the top of Strawberry Canyon above the central UC Berkeley campus is open until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, through August.

The garden regularly closes at 5 p.m., but on Twilight Tuesdays it will remain open into the evening, with admission prices cut in half for the general public. Garden members as well as UC Berkeley staff, faculty and students are admitted free of charge year-round.

The extended hours offer visitors a chance to enjoy an evening picnic, majestic sunsets and the magical ambience of the garden at dusk. The garden shop and entrance gate will remain open until 7 p.m.

Other special summer offerings include free weekend shuttles running a loop between the Underhill parking garage on the south side of campus (near College Avenue and Channing Way) and the garden between 11 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. The service also will be offered on Labor Day.

The “Bot Bus” is equipped with a bike rack and is accessible to those using wheelchairs and needed other accommodations required under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
