Aung San Suu Kyi event moved to Wheeler

By Carol Ness

Monday night’s gathering to hear Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi address Berkeley students by phone has been moved to Wheeler Hall’s auditorium because of high demand for seats.

The event, originally planned for a smaller room in Mulford Hall, is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Monday, March 7. The phone interview with Aung San Suu Kyi,  winner of the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize, is scheduled to start around 8 p.m., after a lecture by Min Zin, a graduate student in political science.  The event is part of a DeCal class on Burmese culture, society and politics.

RSVPs are required to attend or to connect online with the talk.  People can RSVP and find further information here.

Aung San Suu Kyi has spent much of her life under house arrest for leading the opposition to Burma’s military dictatorship; she was most recently released in November 2010.
