WHAT
Cal Day, the annual open house at the University of California, Berkeley, when the campus opens its classrooms, labs, museums, libraries and performance spaces to the public. The popular Bay Area event offers more than 300 activities and typically draws 40,000 visitors, including prospective students and their families.

9 a.m. 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, with a Cal Day concert at 4 p.m.

DETAILS
Cal Day highlights this year include a noon presentation recognizing UC Berkeley’s unique distinction as the top all-time producer of Peace Corps volunteers. The event will include Peace Corps Deputy Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet surprising two UC Berkeley graduating seniors by announcing where they will serve as Peace Corps volunteers.
Other events include demonstrations of electric drive vehicles and of robots folding laundry, and talks on the inner workings of the teenage brain and secrets of the sleeping brain, “Egypt 2011: Is this a Revolution?” and the “Instant Physicist.” This year’s Cal Day concert in Memorial Glade will feature The Dodos, a San Francisco indie folk band.
Admission is free, and no registration is necessary. Parking is also free, but limited. Free shuttles will run all day between downtown Berkeley BART and campus attractions.
