Survey asks how you would improve Telegraph Avenue and downtown Berkeley

By Carol Ness

Berkeley’s Graduate Assembly and ASUC have launched a survey of students, faculty and staff to find out what kinds of stores, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment they’d like to see on Telegraph Avenue and in downtown Berkeley.

The survey follows a student-organized forum with city leaders last month about how to improve the quality of life in Berkeley.

The survey questions focus on how the Telegraph Avenue and downtown commercial districts could be more successful at attracting the campus community. Students hope that the survey results will inform Berkeley city policymakers about what kinds of businesses would make living in Berkeley more enjoyable.

The student-initiated survey was developed in cooperation with Berkeley City Councilmembers Laurie Capitelli, Gordon Wozniak and Susan Wengraf, the City of Berkeley’s Economic Development Office, the Downtown Berkeley Association and the campus’s Community Relations office.

“I would like to encourage the greater campus community to complete this survey,” said Caleb Dardick, director of community relations. “Hearing from students, faculty, and staff will help city policymakers and private-sector business people create a better Berkeley.”
