Media Advisory: DHS Secretary Napolitano to give campus cybersecurity talk

WHAT

“Securing Cyberspace: Our Shared Responsibility,” a talk at the University of California, Berkeley, by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. Napolitano will highlight the continued collaboration of science and engineering communities to help secure the nation.

The free talk, which includes a Q&A session with the audience, is open to faculty, staff and students at UC Berkeley, as well as to members of the media. For the campus community, valid UC identification cards will be required for entry, and there will be a security bag check at the door. Members of the media will need to show press identification.

WHEN

2-3 p.m., Monday, April 25. Members of the media may arrive as early as 12:30 p.m. to set up equipment. Broadcast TV must have cameras set up in the auditorium no later than 1 p.m .

WHERE

Sibley Auditorium, Bechtel Engineering Center, at the northeast corner of the UC Berkeley campus. A map is online here . Doors to the auditorium will open to the general audience at 1:30 p.m.

WHO

Napolitano is the third person and first woman to become secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Before joining the department in 2009, she was governor of Arizona and the first woman to chair the National Governors Association. She was also the first female attorney general of Arizona.

Napolitano will be introduced by Shankar Sastry, dean of the College of Engineering, and George Breslauer, executive vice chancellor and provost.

DETAILS

Napolitano’s visit is part of her ongoing series of lectures at college campuses across the country. It is also part of the College of Engineering’s “View from the Top” lecture series, which brings distinguished leaders in technology and industry to campus.
