Admissions director Walter Robinson heading to UC Davis

By Public Affairs

Walter Robinson, a Bay Area native who joined UC Berkeley in January 2005 to head up undergraduate recruitment and enrollment efforts here, will be leaving for a similar role at UC Davis, the campus has announced. His last day at Berkeley will be Sept. 5.

As Berkeley’s assistant vice chancellor and director of undergraduate admissions, Robinson “has been instrumental in the recruitment and enrollment of our incredibly bright, diverse student body over the past six years,” wrote Harry Le Grande, vice chancellor for student affairs, in a CalMessage on Friday.

Le Grande called the departure “a tremendous loss” for the campus, and said the search for Robinson’s replacement will begin immediately. In the interim, Robinson’s duties will be handled by Anne De Luca, acting associate vice chancellor of admissions and enrollment, and Associate Registrar Walter Wong.

In a written statement, Robinson said he is making the move “in search of new challenges and growth opportunities,” noting that his new position includes responsibility for early academic outreach programs and visitor services.

Prior to his Berkeley appointment, Robinson, who was raised in Richmond and Berkeley, was associate director of admissions at the University of Florida at Gainesville.
