Christina and David Romer to discuss healing the U.S. economy

At a Thursday, Oct. 27 event being held on campus by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Christina and David Romer will lead a discussion on “Healing the Troubled American Economy.” Attendance is free, but registration is required to attend this 5:30 p.m. meeting at Alumni House.

Chancellor Birgeneau will introduce the speakers, who, along with Birgeneau, are fellows of the AAAS.

Christina Romer served as President Obama’s chair of the Council of Economic Advisors from Jan. 2009 until Sept. 2010. She is the Class of 1957 Garff B. Wilson Professor of Economics. Her husband, David Romer, is the Herman Royer Professor of Political Economy on campus. The Romers are co-directors of the Program in Monetary Economics at the National Bureau of Economic Research and members of the bureau’s Business Cycle Dating Committee, which maintains a chronology of the U.S. business cycle.
