Teepee, banner to stay on plaza

By Public Affairs

The Occupy Cal teepee on Sproul Plaza will remain for another week, campus administrators agreed Friday, as a symbolic form of expression. The “Open University” banner hung across the front of Sproul Hall will stay as well.

The decision extends an existing agreement to allow the two items, the most visible remnants of last month’s Occupy Cal protests. UC Berkeley officials stressed that in order to remain in compliance with campus policy, the teepee may not be expanded or inhabited. They also sought to remind protesters that blocking the doors of Sproul Hall with miscellaneous items is a serious fire-safety issue.

The extension will be in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
