Power restored to the hills area

Power was restored late Thursday night to the five UC Berkeley buildings darkened for two days by an short in an underground high-voltage line, according to an update from Information Services and Technology.

The Lawrence Hall of Science remained closed for a third day Friday while it tested rebooted and tested systems, according to its website. It is expected to reopen to the public on Saturday. The other campus buildings affected — Silver Space Sciences Laboratory, Silver Lab Addition, Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) and a small animal facility  — all had their power back on Friday.

The outage occurred late Tuesday night. Campus crews worked all day and late into the night Wednesday and Thursday to locate and repair the problem. Partial power was restored, via generator, to several of the buildings while repairs were made.
