UC Berkeley faculty and staff went walkabout for 30 minutes Wednesday as the campus staged its third annual Cal Walks @ Work Day.

Many of the 500 registered participants made a mid-walk pit stop at the foot of the Campanile, where Health Matters staff handed out light refreshments and free UC Walks T-shirts to celebrate the systemwide event.

Tang Center staff also provided information about the wealth of wellness, fitness and healthy living programs available to members of the campus community.

Wednesday’s Cal Walks event attracted several hundred more participants than last year and scores of campus staff and faculty signed a pledge to incorporate fitness activities into their daily routine.

In 2011, more than 3,600 faculty, staff, retirees and students across 10 campuses, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Office of the President participated in UC Walks, which is part of the UC Living Well program.
