Sponsored by the Commission on the Future of the UC Berkeley Library, the symposium will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m, Friday, March 1 in the Maude Fife Room, 315 Wheeler Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Distinguished speakers will share their perspectives on ways for these venerable institutions to navigate the evolving landscape of information and thrive in the 21st century.

They include Robert Darnton, director of the Harvard University Library; Peter Jerram, PLoS CEO; Peter Norvig, Google’s director of research; Geoffrey Nunberg, School of Information professor; Kevin Starr, State Librarian Emeritus; and Pamela Samuelson, co-director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology.

The Commission on the Future of the UC Berkeley Library is charged with studying the current state of the University Library and envisioning its future.
