Berkeley again makes “elite six” in world reputation rankings

By Public Affairs

Firmly cemented into the “elite six” of world universities, UC Berkeley maintained its fifth-place spot in 2013 reputation rankings released today (Monday, March 4) by Times Higher Education.

Berkeley has been in the top six since the inception of the reputation rankings in 2011. A big gap separates the six from the rest of the universities ranked annually by the United Kingdom’s leading educational news publication. The rankings are based on a survey of more than 16,600 academics worldwide.

Despite deep state disinvestment in UC Berkeley, the university has managed to preserve its public character and remain a model of “access and excellence” for public higher education by being creative, entrepreneurial and innovative, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau says in an article that accompanies the new rankings on the Times Higher Education website.

In addition to Berkeley, the top six include (in order) Harvard, MIT, Cambridge, Oxford and Stanford.
