Haas Public Service Leaders Program renewed; applications open

By Public Affairs

The Peter E. Haas Public Service Leaders Program at UC Berkeley is being continued for a second year, and applications are now being accepted.

The program, made possible by the generosity of Mimi Haas and named in honor of her late husband, supports and nurtures students who are committed to public service, a hallmark of the Berkeley experience, said Chancellor Robert Birgeneau in a campus message announcing the continuation. Peter E. Haas was a legendary Cal alumnus known for his commitment to helping others, the chancellor’s message said.

The program, which seeks to develop a new generation of leaders devoted to serving society, will provide scholarships and leadership training for up to 20 undergraduates who are eligible for financial aid and demonstrate a commitment to public service. Students who are selected will participate in a year-long leadership development program through the Cal Corps Public Service Center.

Applications are now being accepted for the program, and the deadline is Wednesday, April 3. More information and applications can be found on the Cal Corps Public Service Center website.
