Cal Day 2014

Come to Cal Day 2014

The campus will fling its doors open wide from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, for Cal Day, a once-a-year opportunity for one and all to experience the stimulating, energetic and multifaceted life of UC Berkeley.

Prospective students and their families — along with current students, staff, faculty, parents, alumni, friends and the just-plain curious — are invited to choose among some 300 happenings: lectures by distinguished faculty, campus tours, music and dance performances, free admission to campus museums (some open to the public just this one day a year), science and art activities for kids and much more.

Chancellor Nicholas Dirks will moderate a panel of Berkeley Nobel laureates, weighing in on complex global issues; the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra will perform in Hertz Hall.

Cal Day visitors and members of the extended campus community are invited to share their Berkeley stories – videos, photos and testimonials – to inspire the campus’s next generation of students; use #BerkeleyStory .

Cal Day 2014 will also be an opportunity to celebrate the successful completion of the campus’s recent $3.13 billion Campaign for Berkeley, with decorative bows, at locations through campus, to say “thanks to you” to the 281,855 donors who contributed to the multi-year philanthropic effort. (Each bow marks a new or renovated space; the campaign also funded scholarships, fellowships, endowed chairs, research and programs to benefit students and faculty.)

Admission to Cal Day is free. Public transportation is advised; free shuttles will run throughout the day from the Berkeley BART station.

Visitors are invited to browse the extensive list of events, and plan their Cal Day, at calday.berkeley.edu . The schedule includes recommendations for specific groups, such as prospective students and families with kids. The Cal Day website works on mobile phones, and during the day can help visitors find upcoming events located nearby.

And, importantly, Cal Day visitors are invited to contribute to a live Twitter feed (using #sharecalday), as seen below, or to share their Cal Day experiences by emailing calday@berkeley.edu ,
