Students celebrate Holi Day, a Hindu festival of colors

By Public Affairs

About a thousand students celebrated Holi Day on Sunday afternoon at UC Berkeley’s campus, throwing vibrant colored powders (don’t worry, they were organic!) and water on each other for India’s spring holiday. Also known as the festival of colors, Holi Day is an ancient Hindu religious festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil, the end of winter and hopes for the upcoming spring harvest.

NewsCenter photographer Kevin Ho Nguyen, a senior majoring in English and environmental economics, took his camera up to the Foothill parking lot, where students played, laughed and danced to their favorite Bollywood music. Below is a video slideshow of his photos. More photos and videos of Cal’s 2015 Holi Day are posted on its Facebook page . The event was sponsored by UC Berkeley’s Indian Students Association.
