The city of Berkeley just passed the nation’s first cellphone “right to know” ordinance, requiring retailers to warn customers of potential radiation exposure.
The measure is controversial: Many medical professionals say evidence of harm from electromagnetic fields is inconclusive. Nearly 200 scientists have called on international health organizations to adopt tougher regulations; industry groups are expected to sue to block the law.
Joel Moskowitz, director of the Center for Family and Community Health at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, joined a recent discussion of the new ordinance, which he helped draft, on KQED radio’s Forum with Michael Krasny.
Listen to the conversation, which includes Moskowitz and a professor at the UCSF School of Medicine, Allan Balmain.
