Friday, July 10, marks the third annual career conference at UC Berkeley, a chance for staff to attend career-planning workshops and be recognized for their contributions to the campus.
The speakers at the 2015 NOW conference are Barinder Dhillon-Flanagan, the interim deputy director of CSS Human Resources/Academic Personnel, and New York-based writer and lecturer David Zweig.
The 2015 Next Opportunity at Work Staff Career Development Conference, known as the NOW conference, is an all-day event and will take place at Memorial Stadium. It will include keynote speakers and workshops on career planning and resilience, job seeking, and how to support long-term career success. Chancellor Nicholas Dirks is providing annual funding support for the conference to emphasize the campus’s commitment to staff.
This year’s keynote speakers are Barinder Dhillon-Flanagan, interim deputy director of Campus Shared Services human resources/academic personnel, and New York-based writer and lecturer David Zweig.
Dhillon-Flanagan has dedicated 27 years to UC Berkeley and has worked through nearly every classification on campus, from senior clerk to deputy director. She has a reputation for excellent customer service, results-driven leadership and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
David Zweig published a nonfiction book, Invisibles: The Power of Anonymous Work in an Age Relentless Self-Promotion, about the power of anonymous work, as well as a novel, Swimming Inside the Sun. He regularly gives lectures about the intersection of media, technology and culture.
The conference, free and open to all Berkeley staff, is already full, but there is a waiting list for those interested in attending.
