When it comes to sending its graduates into the Teach for America national teaching corps, UC Berkeley is one of the top contributors among large universities in the United States.
In the 2015 program, 57 Berkeley graduates entered the corps, second only to UCLA’s 65 among large schools (those with 10,000 or more students). Berkeley has made the top-contributors’ list all eight years that it’s been published. The 2015 list was made public today.

Teach for America is a national corps of mostly recent college graduates who spend two years teaching in under-resourced public schools. Candidates are recruited from hundreds of college campuses and enter a development program while they are still students
The 2015 corps numbers 4,100 and is again the most diverse in the organization’s history, according to Teach for America’s news release. Its members are graduates of more than 800 colleges and universities and have an average GPA of 3.4. Nearly half of the incoming corps members identify as people of color (compared with less than 20 percent of teachers nationwide), 47 percent come from low-income backgrounds and 34 percent are the first in their family to graduate from college, according to Teach for America.
