Don’t look now, but Halloween horrors arrive… tonight

Don your creepiest costume and head out this weekend to enjoy some of the campus’s spooky Halloween events over the next few days. Theta Delta Chi’s haunted house will test your nerves. Young scientists will be building catapults and launching pumpkins at the Lawrence Hall of Science. House of Horrors: Grab a friend and tip toe through the halls at Theta Delta Chi’s haunted house. Who knows what lay around the corner. All proceeds go to supporting autism research and awareness. 2647 Durant Ave., 8 to 11 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29. More info.

Trick-or-Greek: The CalGreeks Programming Council invites local elementary school students to get into the Halloween spirit with balloon races, cookie decorating, mummy wrapping contests and more. Memorial Glade, 3-6 p.m. (students expected to arrive around 3:30 p.m.), Friday, Oct. 30. More info.

Halloween open mic: Join CalSlam at this year’s eerie open mic night, where you can perform or enjoy poetry, music, dance and stories, all while wearing your most hair-raising costumes. 103 Moffit, 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30. More info.

A night at the symphony: If you want to sit back and relax, the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra will perform music by composers Jean Sibelius, Kaija Saariaho and Maurice Ravel. Hertz Concert Hall, 8-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31. More info.

Pallid bats — among the bats Corky Quirk will show at the UC Botanical Garden — range from western Canada to central Mexico.

All about bats: Bat expert Corky Quirk will be at the UC Botanical Garden to discuss the importance of bats in the environment and the harmful myths that surround them. Live bats will be presented for viewing and discussion. 200 Centennial Drive, 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. More info.

Celebration of Mind: Give your brain a workout with puzzles and logic games at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley. 17 Gauss Way, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. Registration required. More info.

Happy Creepy Halloween: The Lawrence Hall of Science invites young scientists to build catapults and launch pumpkins or get up close and personal with the slithery, scaly creatures in the Animal Discovery Room. Kids will have a chance to build catapults and launch pumpkins high in the sky at the Lawrence Hall of Science on Saturday.

The Huddle: California Football Fest: A pre-game party, hosted by the ASUC Student Union, with a spooky Oski photo booth, poster-making station, outdoor BBQ and more. Lower Sproul Plaza, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. More info.

Cal Bears v. USC Trojans football game: Got your game faces on? Head to Upper Sproul and follow the Cal Band and UC Rally Committee to the stadium to watch the Cal Bears face off against the USC Trojans. 210 Stadium Rim Way, 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. More info.

Graduate student Halloween party: For the UC Berkeley Graduate Assembly’s annual Halloween bash, a DJ will be mixing late into the night.
