The brand marketing team in UC Berkeley’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs brought home a gold award at the 2017 CASE Circle of Excellence Awards for its #InThisGen ad campaign.

One of the ads in the campaign (#InThisGen Cancer) also picked up a bronze award in the Individual ads category. CASE is the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

These two wins add to the tally of the brand team, which has won every flavor of CASE award over the past five years, including “grand gold” (design and photography), gold (brand), silver (brand) and bronze (web redesign, innovative use of technology).

“This is an example of how the institutional brand can shine when we highlight the impact of our amazing work through a creative lens,” said Ram Kapoor, chief marketing officer, whose team worked on the campaign over a two-year period. “I believe this campaign has a long shelf life and will become stronger and stronger as more campus units apply it to their stories.”

In addition to Kapoor, the #InThisGen team includes: Hulda Nelson and Melani King (designers), Sara Leavitt and Leta Negandhi (web development), and Kathryn Bader (social media). Also on the team were four people who have since left Berkeley: former Associate Vice Chancellor Claire Holmes, marketing manager Avi Martin, designer Laurie Frasier and social media specialist Christopher Merchant.

The premier communications competition for institutions of higher education, the 2017 CASE Circle of Excellence Awards drew 3,364 entries from around the globe.
