Camp Fire smoke blowing through Central Valley

Landsat 8 multispectral satellite images capture at about 10:45 a.m. PST on Thursday, Nov. 8, just four hours after fire ignition. Images were processed using Google’s Earth Engine platform. The Landsat images are shown here as an overlay on the Earth Engine true-color high spatial resolution (meter-scale) base map. The Landsat images are processed to show green vegetation in the near infrared (NIR) and dead vegetation and the fire in red colors using shortwave infrared (SWIR1), with the burn front of the Camp Fire clearly visible.
