All buildings and facilities back on regular campus power

By Public Affairs

As of early Friday morning, regular power has been restored to all buildings and facilities on the UC Berkeley campus, completing reconnection work required by an outage and fire on Sept. 30.

Haas Pavilion (including the Recreational Sports Facility locker rooms), Dwinelle Annex and Alumni House were the last to be brought back onto the grid; the work was carried out overnight. They followed California and Durant halls and the Doe and Bancroft libraries by a day. All of the buildings had run on generators since the fire.

Power was restored slowly and carefully, by disconnecting the generators and reconnecting cables on the campus power grid. As the power was turned on, the Physical Plant-Campus Services (PPCS) team conducted thorough testing at each step.

On Wednesday, crews also reconnected Edwards Track, the campus co-generation plant and Environment Health and Safety, which had been without power since the outage.

As soon as all repairs are complete, members of the campus’s High Voltage Team plan to turn their attention to a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the outage. The campus will be kept updated on the investigation.
