Schedule change in effect for UC Berkeley-UC Davis bus service

The afternoon schedule for the intercampus bus service between UC Berkeley and UC Davis will change, effective Jan. 3, 2011. Based on a recent rider survey, the shuttle will now depart Davis for Berkeley at 4:30 p.m. (instead of 2:15 p.m.). In the Berkeley-to-Davis direction, the schedule will remain the same, with departure from UC Berkeley at 6:30 p.m.

Operated by UC Davis Fleet Services, the shuttle service has been providing faculty, staff and registered students with transportation between the two campuses for more than 40 years. There are two round trips Monday through Friday, picking up and dropping off passengers at UC Berkeley’s West Gate entrance and at the UC Davis Shields Library.

The current fare is $9 one-way, plus a 75-cent transaction fee; round trip is $19.50. Reservations are required, and may be made online or by phone.

Recent changes to the service include improved online reservation capabilities, online credit-card payment acceptance, expanded ridership survey capabilities, and route optimization.

In addition to providing transportation for about 1,000 people (or 15,000 one-way rides) between the two UC campuses each year, the bus transports materials to and from UC’s Northern Regional Library Facility in Richmond. It drops off passengers in Berkeley, makes a side trip to Richmond, then returns to the Berkeley campus to pick up passengers headed for Davis. Starting in 2011, as a cost-saving measure, the afternoon side trip to Richmond will be eliminated.
