A committee of Berkeley administrators, faculty, students and staff has been formed to advise Chancellor-designate Nicholas Dirks on the search to replace Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of 2013.
The 12 members of the panel are: Lisa Alvarez-Cohen, chair of civil and environmental engineering; Gibor Basri, vice chancellor, equity and inclusion; Janet Broughton, vice provost for the faculty; Betty Deakin, vice chair, Academic Senate; Anne DeLuca, associate vice chancellor, admissions and enrollment; Valerie Jameson, vice president, academic affairs, ASUC; Victoria Kahn, professor, comparative literature; Steve Martin, dean, Division of Biological Sciences, College of Letters and Science; Bahar Navab, president, Graduate Assembly; Pat Schlesinger, assistant vice chancellor, research administration and compliance; Mike Williams, trustee, UC Berkeley Foundation; and John Wilton, vice chancellor, administration and finance.
Supported by Spencer Stuart, an international executive-search consulting firm, the group has met once, and is expected to work until mid-fall semester, when it hopes to identify a candidate for the campus’s No. 2 position.
As soon as the position specifications are written — likely in June — they’ll be posted online, along with a link for submitting nominations.
