Thousands of UC Berkeley students move into campus housing this weekend
Campus ambassadors welcome more than 7,000 students who are expected to move in beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

ATTENTION: Higher education and general assignment reporters, weekend assignment desks, photo desks and general assignment and feature writers.
WHAT: Campus ambassadors will welcome more than 7,000 students who are expected to move in to student housing by the time classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
WHEN: Credentialed news media are invited to cover move-in weekend this Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Units 1 and 2, which are complexes with several residence halls.
WHO: More than 7,000 UC Berkeley new and returning students.
WHERE: The key move-in activity will take place at Unit 1 and Unit 2 residential housing units. Unit 1 is located at College Avenue and Durant Street and Unit 2 is at College Avenue and Haste Street. See campus map.
DETAILS: Move-in weekend kicks off Getting Your Bearings welcome activities. More than 300 events are planned, spanning three weeks, to welcome new students to UC Berkeley and orient them to campus culture, the UC Berkeley community and all of the campus services and resources available to them.
Among the events:
- New Student Convocation: This ceremonial event, on Monday, Aug. 24, serves as the official university welcome by Chancellor Dirks and others.
- Caltopia 2015: The largest experiential college lifestyle festival in the nation features more than 100 campus, local and national brands. Sunday and Monday, Aug. 23-24.
- Calapalooza: All new undergraduate students are invited to the annual resource fair on Wednesday, Sept. 2. New students will be introduced to more than 300 student groups, campus services and performers.
