The library at UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies is stepping up to help California voters better understand the one ballot measure on the June 7 primary ballot.

The California Choices guide is a collaborative effort by IGS and Next 10, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization, along with other partners from across the state.

Proposition 50 would amend the state constitution to authorize the California Assembly and Senate to suspend a member of either legislative house in event of wrongdoing. It would prohibit the legislator from performing any duties of their office, and would mandate withholding of salary and benefits during any suspension.

The California Choices site offers both a streamlined and an expanded analysis of the proposition, and shares positions staked out on the measure by political parties, nonprofit organizations and newspapers. It also links to a California Secretary of State website that tracks money spent to pass or defeat the measure.

The guide also includes a Share Your Vote page, which enables site visitors to share their intended vote with family and friends.
