Berkeley-Under Armour partnership officially begins
The 10-year partnership includes new athletic gear, scholarships and joint philanthropic efforts
June 1, 2017
Yoga, Zumba and tai chi clinics hosted by Berkeley Rec Sports and giveaways on @CalAthletics social media kicked off the official launch today of UC Berkeley’s campuswide partnership with global performance apparel company Under Armour. Initially announced in April 2016, the 10-year agreement fostered by Berkeley’s University Partnership Program includes not only Under Armour footwear, apparel and equipment for Cal Athletics’ men’s and women’s sports, but also joint efforts between Under Armour and the broader campus community.
Among the opportunities the partnership will bring are student internships and jobs for graduates, collaboration on charitable and philanthropic programs, upgrades to facilities such as the court at Haas Pavilion and California Memorial Stadium’s turf and product discounts for the campus community.
Under Armour-branded Cal uniforms will be unveiled in the coming months, and fans already can buy officially licensed gear at the Cal Student Store and online at the Fanatics shop at shop.calbears.com.
As part of the partnership, several key intercollegiate athletics marks and some custom additions are making a debut. In addition to the Cal script, two classic symbols, the walking bear and the block C, combine to replace the growling bear logo. A custom “Sather Stripe” design also will appear on all Cal uniforms and was created by the Under Armour design team to evoke the vertical lines of the Campanile and the lines and stripes on the stadium’s donor wall and in its landscaping.
