California domestic migration has plunged during pandemic, study finds
December 15, 2021
Editor’s note: On Dec. 15, 2021, Berkeley News published an article highlighting a sharp decrease in the number of residents of other states moving into California since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The article was based on original research from the California Policy Lab at UC Berkeley.
On Feb. 28, 2022, the Lab issued an errata for its research report. Because of an error in its calculations, the Lab said, the original report substantially underestimated the number of out-of-state residents moving to California since the start of the pandemic.
To minimize the risks of confusion, Berkeley News has removed its coverage of the report from circulation.
The Lab’s staff researchers are working to revise the analysis and conclusions. Berkeley News will report on the revised findings as soon as they are available.
