Power restored after outage at multiple campus facilities

8:30 p.m.: As of 8 p.m. tonight, power has been restored to all UC Berkeley buildings affected by the outage caused early this afternoon by a short circuit in a high voltage line at a campus substation. The campus anticipates minor lingering impacts within certain buildings. Facilities Services is checking equipment and systems in each affected building in order to fully restore operations. Normal campus operations are expected to resume tomorrow.

7 p.m.: No in-person classes will be held this evening in buildings without power, and if you are on campus, please practice personal safety and avoid traveling in and through unlit areas. 

UC Berkeley continues to respond to a power outage that occurred earlier this afternoon and is affecting multiple facilities. Fortunately, no injuries to members of the community have been reported. 

The outage was caused by a short circuit in a high voltage line at one of the campus substations. 

Efforts continue so that power can be restored to all affected buildings as soon and as safely as possible. We anticipate a more detailed timeline about restoration efforts about 8 p.m. tonight.The buildings experiencing loss of power are Lewis and Wurster halls; Calvin Hall (Simons Institute); Minor Hall and the Minor Hall Addition; Faculty Club, Women’s Faculty Club and Senior Hall; California Memorial Stadium; Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3 residence halls; Bowles Hall; Maximo Martinez Commons; Foothill Student Housing; Residential & Student Service Programs; Hearst Gym and Hearst Field Annex; Anthropology and Art Practice Building; Berkeley Law and Simon Hall; UC Botanical Garden; Strawberry Canyon Recreation & Pool; 2251 College Building (Archaeological Research Facility); Byerly Seismic Vault; Crossroads dining commons; International House; Anna Head buildings; Bancroft and Underhill parking structures; Maxwell Family Field and Parking Garage; Haas School of Business; Cheit Building; Chou Hall; Greek Theatre;  Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library; and Hertz and Morrison halls.

3:15 p.m.: UC Berkeley is responding to a power outage across multiple campus facilities that occurred earlier this afternoon (Wednesday, March 13). No injuries to members of the campus community have been reported. Some buildings are operating on backup generator power. Efforts are being made to restore power to all affected buildings as quickly and as safely as possible.
