Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss fight to preserve democracy at 2022 Boxer Lecture

WHAT: In the annual Barbara Boxer Lecture, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi will be interviewed by former U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer to discuss threats to American democracy and the role of women leaders at this historic time.

WHEN: Monday, April 18, 2022 | 3:00 – 4:15 p.m. (Doors open at 2:30 p.m.)

WHERE: This in-person event will be held on the University of California, Berkeley, campus at Hertz Hall, 101 Cross-Sproul Path. It also will be available by livestream at the UC Berkeley Institute for Governmental Studies (IGS) YouTube page.

DETAILS: As American democracy confronts threats on multiple fronts, how are women leaders charting the path forward? Speaker Pelosi has been at the forefront of struggles on issues of voting rights, election reform, health care, climate and immigration, navigating landmark legislative proposals through the House of Representatives. As the first woman Speaker of the House and House Democrats’ leader for two decades, Speaker Pelosi brings an unparalleled perspective to contemporary American politics and policy.

Sen. Boxer served with Speaker Pelosi in the House before making history in 1992 when she and Sen. Feinstein became the first two women to be elected to the U.S. Senate representing a single state.

The Boxer Lecture is an annual event that focuses on women in leadership.

This event is sponsored by the Institute of Governmental Studies and the Bancroft Library. It is co-sponsored by the Robert T. Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service, the College of Letters & Sciences, Berkeley Law, Charles and Louise Travers Department of Political Science and the Department of Sociology.
