Students to query campus finance chief at open forum Tuesday
Students have many questions about how UC Berkeley raises and spends money, and what it means for them. John Wilton, vice chancellor for administration and finance, will answer questions at a forum set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26. Students are invited to submit and vote on questions ahead of time online.

Who makes up UC Berkeley’s private donor base? How are student fees spent? Are there more fee hikes on the horizon? What can be done to reduce out-of-state tuition? Why do some club sports get more campus support than others?

Students have a mountain of questions about how UC Berkeley raises and spends money, and what those practices mean for the university and their own futures.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26, they’ll get their chance to raise such questions directly to John Wilton, the campus’s vice chancellor for administration and finance. The open forum – to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in 105 Stanley Hall – is sponsored by Wilton’s student advisory group.
Berkeley students are invited to submit questions online and vote on which ones they’d most like to hear answered at Tuesday’s forum. Those who prefer to ask a question anonymously, or express concerns about the forum itself, may email [email protected]; a student adviser will respond.
Wilton is charged with managing the campus’s annual operating budget, establishing a sustainable financial model for Berkeley’s future, and overseeing the ongoing work of Operational Excellence. The divisions he’s responsible for include financial and human resources, auxiliary and business services, information technology, athletics, and environment, health and public safety.
