UC’s Promise for Education campaign ends Oct. 31

Only a few days remain to contribute to the Promise for Education campaign and support undergraduate scholarships for the University of California. The campaign has raised nearly $1.2 million since it launched last month.

If you haven’t yet made a promise, visit the Promise for Education website to donate by Oct. 31 and your contribution will be matched by the Entertainment Industry Fund.
Some notable alumni and staff are showing their support for the UC campaign with some great promises.
Desperate Housewives‘ Teri Hatcher, whose dad, Owen, is a UC Berkeley alumnus, made a promise to give five personal Skype cooking lessons and share some recipes she learned during her time at Le Cordon Bleu.
Claire Holmes, associate vice chancellor for communications and public affairs, promises to provide two hours of career counseling and host a panel with her leadership team for anyone looking to break into the fields of communications or public relations. Details on this event in partnership with the Career Center will be shared with the entire campus community in the coming weeks.
UC Berkeley alum John Cho (Sulu in Star Trek Into Darkness) promises to randomly select a fan who contributes at least $25 to join him and fellow alum (and TV’s Sulu) George Takei for lunch.
The Promise for Education scholarship funds are part of the undergraduate scholarships provided by the financial aid office. Undergraduate students from California who have a demonstrated financial need will receive these funds in the form of need-based grants and scholarships. In some cases, the dollars will help middle-income students who wouldn’t normally qualify for aid. In other cases, students who may already qualify for some aid will get more. Scholarships and grants will be processed for incoming and current students in 2014.
