Microsoft Founder Bill Gates will talk to UC Berkeley, students and faculty about “Giving Back: Finding the Best Way to Make a Difference,” as part of his first tour of universities across the country since transitioning full time to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

WHAT
“Giving Back: Finding the Best Way to Make a Difference,” a talk by Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and founder of Microsoft Corp. The talk, open to University of California, Berkeley, students and faculty, is part of Gates’ first tour of universities across the country since transitioning full time to the foundation.
Gates, whose first stop is UC Berkeley, is discussing how to inspire students and faculty to focus on the world’s biggest problems, including health, hunger and poverty. He also will learn about work that students and faculty are doing to improve education in the United States and to improve health and reduce poverty worldwide.

Gates will be talking to students at five universities: UC Berkeley and Stanford University in Palo Alto on April 19; the University of Chicago on April 20; and Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 21.
Gates’ brief talk at UC Berkeley will be followed by 30 minutes of questions from the audience.
The Gates Foundation, with a stated goal of helping all people lead healthy, productive lives, focuses on improving health in developing countries and giving people the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. It aims to ensure that all people – especially those with the fewest resources – have opportunities to succeed in school and life.
Based in Seattle, Wash., the foundation is led by CEO Jeff Raikes and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.
