High school students apply for fall 2011 UC Berkeley freshman admission in record numbers
High school students continue to apply in record numbers for freshman admission to the University of California, Berkeley, with almost 53,000 students submitting applications.

High school students continue to apply in record numbers for freshman admission to the University of California, Berkeley, with almost 53,000 students submitting applications, according to data released today (Friday, Jan. 14) by the UC Office of the President. Approximately 52,900 students submitted applications for the fall 2011 freshman class at UC Berkeley, compared to roughly 50,300 who applied for fall 2010 admission.
University of California, officials report that every campus in the UC system experienced an increase in freshman applications when comparing fall 2011 and fall 2010 numbers, creating an overall systemwide increase of 5.7 percent. The full report with detailed data is available from UCOP.
Among students seeking admission as transfer students, UC Berkeley’s applications rose to 16,012 for fall 2011 from 15,162 for fall 2010. The total number of transfer applications across the UC system also increased; applications from California community college students, for example, increased by 9.6 percent from fall 2010 to fall 2011.
