What’s wrong with medicine in America? Cardiologist Sandeep Jauhar, who is an author and New York Times columnist as well as a practicing doctor, will be appearing on campus tomorrow (Tuesday, May 5) to give his insider’s view.
Interviewing Dr. Jauhar will be Stefano Bertozzi, dean of UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. “The American Health Care Mess: A Doctor’s Perspective” is the last in a series on healthcare costs and affordability sponsored by the Graduate School of Journalism, the School of Public Health and Kaiser Permanente.
Jauhar, the director of the Heart Failure Program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, has written two books about his medical education and career — Intern: A Doctor’s Initiation and Doctored: The Disillusionment of an American Physician — that provide trenchant insights into the inefficiencies and waste of America’s troubled, profit-driven healthcare system, and the negative impact of these flaws on patient care.
He has written for the New York Times for many years and is a regular columnist for the opinion section.
