Media advisory: Tech luminaries discuss scenarios for the future of cybersecurity

WHAT: “Cybersecurity Futures 2020,” a presentation of possible scenarios for the year 2020, highlighting evolving interactions among humans, machines, and society. Developed by the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC), these scenarios consider the cybersecurity implications emerging around areas such as personal data, digital sensing of human emotions, advances in predictive algorithms, and more.

Presenters from CLTC will be joined by leading technology experts and innovators to discuss the scenarios as part of a broader conversation about the future of cybersecurity. The program is aimed at policymakers and planners, as well as media covering cybersecurity.

WHEN: 3-5 p.m., Thursday, April 28

WHERE: The National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C.

WHO: In addition to Steven Weber, CLTC faculty director, and Betsy Cooper, CLTC executive director, speakers will include:

  • Jeff Moss, founder of Black Hat and DEF CON security conferences.
  • Walter Parkes, an award-winning film producer whose credits include such futuristic movies as War Games, Sneakers, Minority Report, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and The Time Machine.
  • Phyllis Schneck, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s chief cybersecurity official.
  • Nathaniel Fick, CEO of cybersecurity company Endgame.
  • Ed Felten, deputy chief technology officer of the United States

The event will be moderated by Michael B. Farrell and Sara Sorcher, editors with the Christian Science Monitor‘s Passcode special section on online security and privacy.
