In response to the shooting this morning at the University of California, Los Angeles, which left two men dead, UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks issued the following statement:
On behalf of the Berkeley campus community, I want to express our deepest condolences for the appalling loss of life at UCLA. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim.
On this difficult day we stand together in solidarity with the students, faculty, staff alumni and supporters of our sister campus. We can only hope that this — yet another senseless armed attack on the innocent — will serve to accelerate efforts underway to restrict and restrain the unlawful use of firearms.
